Do I need the password to unlock a PDF?

It depends on the type of protection. If the PDF requires a password just to open and view the document (User Password), you must provide that password. However, if the PDF opens fine but restricts actions like printing or copying (Owner Password), HelaForge can usually remove those restrictions without the password.

Why is the text not selectable after unlocking?

To safely remove passwords from certain encrypted PDFs locally in the browser, HelaForge may need to re-render the pages as images. While this successfully unlocks the document for viewing and printing, the original text layer is flattened.
